Plans and limits

What Show and Grow each include, how plans work per show, and what counts towards your allowance.

Every plan does the same core job: Podato processes your episodes and writes from them. Show and Grow differ in how many episodes a month, whether there's a back-catalogue allowance, and whether you get Analytics and the Brain. Prices are per show.

One plan per show

Each show has its own plan and its own allowance, and you can add as many shows as you like. Your first show can start on the free trial before it has a plan. To add another, choose Add a show in the show switcher, beside the Podato logo. Podato asks you to choose a plan for the new show before it starts work on it.

If a show's plan ends, its Billing card in Account settings says No plan. The show can't process episodes, write or research guests until you choose a plan for it, and nothing in it is deleted. See Change or cancel your plan.

A seat is one person, including you. You have your own seat plus two for each show with a plan, and you can use them on any of your shows. Someone on several of your shows takes one seat. Invite people from Team in Account settings (on a phone, choose More, then Account settings, then Team).

Running a lot of shows, or an agency? Let's talk about one price for all of them.

What counts towards your allowance

Processing an episode is the thing you have an allowance of, and each episode counts as one, however long it is. Reading your feed, editing what Podato wrote and approving things never count. Neither does processing an episode whose feed already includes its transcript, for up to 1,000 episodes across your account. See How Podato works for how reading your feed differs from processing an episode.

Each show's allowance for processing has up to two parts:

  • Episodes each month. The Show plan processes 10 a month and Grow 30, new episodes or ones from your back catalogue. The allowance refills at the start of each calendar month, and anything you don't use doesn't carry over.
  • Your back catalogue, on Grow. Grow adds a separate allowance for episodes published before you added the show, and Podato uses it for them first, so catching up on your archive leaves your 30 for new episodes. Paying yearly, there's room for your whole back catalogue from day one, up to 1,000 episodes. Paying monthly, it's 100 a month until they're all processed, up to the same 1,000.

On the Show plan, a past episode you process comes out of the 10.

The Billing card in Account settings shows how much of the show's allowance is used. On a phone, choose More, then Account settings, then Billing.

Episodes Podato processes for you

Two things process episodes without touching your monthly allowance:

  • Podato itself, on its own, goes through the episodes from the two years before you added your show, and every one since, newest first.
  • Process from feed, a button on Episodes, does the same for your whole catalogue with one press, however old.

Both process the episodes whose feed includes a transcript, which are free. On Grow they also process past episodes from the back-catalogue allowance. On the Show plan, they process only the free ones.

Everything else waits for you to pick it, including a new episode with no transcript in its feed. On Episodes, switch the view to Table, tick the episodes, then choose Process. Unless they're free, they use your monthly allowance; on Grow, a past episode uses the back-catalogue allowance first.

Transcribing audio

If an episode has no transcript, Podato transcribes its audio as part of processing it. You can transcribe as many episodes as you can process.

Writing and rewriting

Each time Podato writes or rewrites one piece (a set of titles, the show notes, another batch of social posts), that's one generation. Every plan gets a monthly pool of 15 generations for each episode in its monthly allowance. That's enough to write up each of those episodes in full and still ask for new versions along the way.

When you run out

Podato tells you which allowance you've used, when it refills (on a paid plan), and how to get more. Nothing you've already made is affected.
